Angell Elementary
Angell Recess
ULC is honoring Jesus’ call to serve our neighbor by partnering with Angell Elementary (the school right behind ULC). We hope to send kid-loving residents and college students as volunteers to play with the kids at recess and help with lunch distribution. If you have the special skill of opening milk cartons, this job is for you. We currently cover Tuesdays and Fridays from 11:30 to 12:30. Even one hour per month would be a blessing to the staff and teachers there.

Life Sunday
On January 18, 2026, ULC will join churches nationwide to celebrate Life Sunday. We will thank God for his gift of life from womb to tomb. As part of cultivating a culture of life at ULC and in our community, we want to support the important work of Family Life Services as they work with women and families in crisis pregnancy situations.

Family of God
Meal serving in Detroit
One Sunday a month, a ULC team goes to Family of God in Detroit to serve a freshly cooked meal while meeting and interacting with the Family of God community. You can serve one time a year or every month. You can shop for the food, cook the meat, or serve the food in person — whatever works for you. With your help, we are looking forward to supporting our Kingdom Partner in the way they need us most.

GLOCAL 2025
Idea forms due November 2, 2025
Each Advent season, ULC works together to bless our world both globally and locally, intentionally working with specific ministries to help achieve a goal. We call this project “GLOCAL.” Highlights from GLOCAL 2024 include:
- Funding the training of 28 new counselors providing trauma healing in war-torn regions of the Congo, donating $5,612 to Congo Can Heal.
- Coming alongside families enduring the loss of a child during pregnancy or infancy, covering the costs of 73 memory boxes for a total of $1,831 to Metro Detroit Share.
Do you have an organization you’re passionate about that you think would be a fit for ULC’s GLOCAL 2025? Submit your idea and tell us more. Submissions are due on November 2, 2025.

Hope Clinic
Meal Prep & ULCereal Drive
The ULC staff will serve Kingdom Partner Hope Clinic by prepping meals for their daily dinners. Your ULC staff is trying out their culinary skills prepping casseroles once per month. We would love to have ULC community members come and join us on October 29 and November 19.
As Hope Clinic’s “Cereal Church,” it’s our job to keep their cereal shelf stocked, so we do a ULCereal Drive about three times a year. All you have to do is add cereal to your shopping list when we say, “GO!” Prefer shopping online? We’ll make an Amazon link available during the drive. Generally we collect hundreds of boxes, and we could use some help dropping cereal off to Hope Clinic every few days throughout each drive. ULCereal Drive: October 26–November 9.

House N2 Home
Furnishings after homelessness
House N2 Home is one of ULC’s Kingdom Partners. They serve individuals and families transitioning from homelessness in Washtenaw County, providing furnishings through a group of volunteers. You can volunteer at the facility or assist with move-ins. Each room is dedicated to different household necessities (bed sheets, children’s toys, art, rugs, and more). Tasks might include putting newly donated items in place, framing artwork, or vacuuming rugs. ULC also does various item drives throughout the year. In May, at the close of the semester, ULC hosts a drop-off zone as students move out of their dorms — providing needed items to House N2 Home and reducing the amount of garbage thrown away as students move off campus.

Love Ypsi
Community Meal & Diaper Drive
Our new Kingdom Partner, Love Ypsi, is seeking to provide a community meal for those who live in a poverty-stricken area of Ypsilanti near Faith Lutheran Church. ULC is supporting them by committing to provide a meal one Monday per month. We are asking volunteers to follow the model we use for Family of God: shoppers, meal preparers, and a group to go to Faith Lutheran Church and serve the meal. Even if you can only help one time per year, we would greatly appreciate it.
Diaper Drive: September 21–October 4. Love Ypsi’s Diaper Pantry is a joint ministry of Cross & Resurrection and Faith Lutheran Churches, helping neighbors in Ypsilanti with about a week’s supply of diapers or pull-ups, wipes, and diaper cream per child. Nearly 1 in 2 families struggle to afford diapers. Starting September 21, bring unopened packages or sleeves of diapers to the donation station.

March 1–8, 2026 · UM Spring Break
Tanzania Mission Trip
Info meeting October 5, 2025
A couple of years ago ULC began a partnership with our friends at Christ’s Hope International (CHI). CHI is a global organization that works together to provide care and discipleship for orphaned and vulnerable children in 7 African countries. Many people at ULC have sponsored children through CHI. Gabe and Melissa Kasper got to meet the children and care providers in Tanzania and Uganda, and now we’d like to send a team from ULC to connect and serve alongside our ministry partners in Tanzania. The dates for the trip coincide with UM’s Spring Break, March 1–8, 2026. If you have any interest in joining us, please plan on attending an information session after any of our gatherings on October 5, 2025.
